Brian Jones Owned and Stage-Worn Bespoke Fringed Jacket by Ossie Clark (ca. 1968)....
Description
STAGE-WORN BY BRIAN JONES AT HIS FINAL LIVE STAGE PERFORMANCE WITH THE ROLLING STONES
Brian Jones Owned and Stage-Worn Bespoke Fringed Jacket by Ossie
Clark (ca. 1968). Vintage original jacket custom-made by
designer Ossie Clark. Worn by Brian Jones, most importantly
on-stage for what would be his final live performance with the
Rolling Stones, on May 12, 1968 NME Show at the Empire Pool in
Wembley, UK. Additional known images include a candid on-street
photograph of Brian; and at the London premiere of Rosemary's
Baby with Ringo Starr, Mia Farrow, and Roman Polanski on May 7,
1968. The bespoke jacket made from suede with fringe detailing from
the elbows and waist, the sleeves tied to the body with decorative
suede laces visible to the shoulders. With pointed collar and
lapels, and distinctive zig-zag pattern to the front with holes
possibly for lacing. The inside stamped "OSSIE CLARK / 100% REAL
LEATHER / MADE IN ENGLAND". Accompanied by a letter signed by Anna
Wohlin concerning the provenance. Brian Jones first met Anna Wohlin
at London's Marquee Club in the mid-1960s, and by 1969 she had
moved in with Jones at his Cotchford Farm in Sussex - a property
formerly owned by Winnie the Pooh author A.A. Milne.
According to Wohlin, "We lived a very happy life... he was enjoying
recording and listening to music as well as working on producing
the music he had recorded on his trip to Morocco. I have treasured
these clothes of Brian's for nearly 50 years, they have been a
source of comfort when I remember him, the fun we had and how his
life ended too soon." As evidenced by the important public outings
wearing this jacket, the Ossie Clark-designed garment was of
particular importance to Brian. Anna recalls in the accompanying
letter that "Brian was really proud of the fact Ossie usually made
clothes for women but had been thrilled to make something for
Brian... it was definitely one of his favorite items of clothing."
