Buddy Holly, Ritchie Valens, The Big Bopper, and Dion Vintage Never Before Seen Photos From January 30, 1959. Just three days before "The Day The Music Died", an all-star lineup of Buddy Holly, Ritchie Valens, The Big Bopper, and Dion and the Belmonts performed at the Laramar Ballroom in Fort Dodge, IA as part of their Winter Dance Party tour. Attending the event was teenager Sharon Kay Leonard who caught in candid photos some of the last images taken of three of the performers who died the morning of February 2, 1959 in a tragic plane crash. Waylon Jennings, later to become a Country & Western superstar, was Holly's bass player, and several shots of the young, then clean-shaven Jennings are included in the album. An even younger Dion DiMucci, is also the subject of Miss Leonard's camera in these 11 4" x 5" b&ws, seven of which have been blown up to 8" x 10"s. Rounding out the scrapbook are clippings from the ensuing days, associated correspondence, and signed postcards and a signed photo from Bobby Vee. After the tragedy, the 15-year old Robert Velline, volunteered his band The Shadows to fill in on the tour and later became a teen idol himself, ultimately even performing with the surviving Crickets. The album is truly compelling! From the Dick Clark Collection.
