DescriptionBuddy Holly / Ritchie Valens / Dion Signed "It Doesn't Matter Anymore / Raining in My Heart" 45 Single (Coral 9-62074, 1959). Released less than a month before the infamous "Day the Music Died", this copy of Buddy Holly's last single to be released during his lifetime is signed by Holly and his Winter Dance Party tour-mates Ritchie Valens and Dion DiMucci. All three have autographed the "It Doesn't Matter Anymore" side of the orange Coral label; Buddy and Dion in black fountain ink, while Valens has lent his signature in pencil. An incredible piece of Rock N' Roll history related to one of the most tragic events in the history of popular music. Includes original Coral Records paper sleeve. Condition: VG 5 to VG-EX 6. COA from Heritage Auctions.
On January 23, 1959 Buddy Holly, Ritchie Valens, J.P. "The Big Bopper" Richardson, and Dion & the Belmonts kicked off the Winter Dance Party tour with a concert in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. All the musicians involved shared one bus for the first eleven dates of the tour, until - due to an ever-increasing list of illnesses and frostbite injuries caused by ill-equipped buses with no heat - Buddy Holly, Ritchie Valens, and J.P. Richardson climbed aboard a Beechcraft 35 Bonanza single-engine airplane after a show on February 2 in Clear Lake, Iowa. The three Rock N' Roll legends wouldn't make it to their destination of Moorhead, Minnesota as the plane - which took off at 12:55 a.m. on February 3 - crashed a mere six miles from the airport, where pilot Roger Peterson, along with Holly, Valens, and Richardson, were killed upon impact. February 3, 1959 was indeed "The Day the Music Died", and Rock N' Roll would never be the same.
