    Description

FROM THE MAN WHO FIRST CAPTURED THE IMAGE

Bob Dylan Joan Baez 1965 Concert Poster, Owned by Photographer Dick Waterman. Very famous concert-advertising window card of the king & queen of folk music at the time. Everyone's familiar by now with this iconic Toulouse-Lautrec inspired artwork, done by folk musician and artist Eric Von Schmidt 55 years ago. But what makes this poster special is that it was once owned by Mississippi-based writer, promoter and photographer Dick Waterman, who has his own Wikipedia entry tracing his long and respected career. And Mr. Waterman shot the photograph from which Von Schmidt based his artwork for this poster.

Poster measures 13" x 21 ½" and grades to Very Good condition. COA from Heritage Auctions.

More Information: We've attached the image of Dick Waterman's photo to connect the dots for you, but it's only a digital jpeg cribbed from the Net and not included in this lot.

But in this lot we are including the front panel panel from the original shipping box to our consignor many years ago, offering proof of sorts that the poster originated with Mr. Waterman.

Condition details: Poster has general light handling and light toning throughout. Three patches of the rust color have bled over into Ms. Baez's hair, either through a printer's flaw or possibly moisture at one time, although there are no other signs of moisture damage. A bit of white scuffing on the rust lies just above. A tiny white scratch lies just to the right of the uppermost rust patch in Baez's hair.

A small bit of very light splatter spots appear under the circle with "VS." Tiny white flaw or mark above that circle. A very light horizontal rub mark appears in the white area in extreme upper right. A tiny hole appears in the "n" of Dylan, which is of bigger size on the verso. Verso also has the tiniest vertical water stain at the bottom edge, on the back of where those little tiny splatters appear.
