Beatles - Ringo Starr Handwritten Postcard to His Grandmother from Hamburg, Signed "Richy" in Matted Display (Hamburg, January 13, 1962). A 5.5" x 4" color souvenir postcard picturing various scenes around Hamburg. It is addressed on the back by Ringo to Mrs. K. Gleaves in Liverpool, postmarked January 13, 1962, (one stamp present), with a message that reads (as written): "Dear Gramma. Arrived hear in Hamburg O.K. Having a fab time. The club is great, better than the dance halls in Liverpool. Hope you are keeping well and looking after yourself. Also Happy New Year. Give my regards to everyone. See you soon. Love Richy xxx". At this point in time, Ringo was in Hamburg performing at the Top Ten Club - but not with Rory Storm and the Hurricanes as one might expect. He had left that group in December 1961 to join another act just as familiar to Beatle fans: Tony Sheridan! Certainly a rare artifact from a little-known (and short-lived) era in Ringo's career. Fine condition. From the Uwe Blaschke Beatles Collection. COA from Heritage Auctions.

"In January 1962 Ringo left the Hurricanes to join Tony Sheridan at the Top Ten club in Hamburg. Club owner Peter Eckhorn had been in Liverpool attempting to book a return season by the Beatles for his club, but was unsuccessful. While in Liverpool he offered Ringo £30 a week plus the use of a car and a flat if he would become part of Sheridan's band at the Top Ten. Ringo joined the Star Combo, as Sheridan called the outfit (much to the annoyance of Eckhorn - as Sheridan had named it in honor of a new club about to open, the Star-Club, where he intended playing next), which also featured Roy Young, a musician friend of the Beatles. However, Ringo found that Sheridan was a difficult and frustrating artist to back, as he'd often change to another number in the middle of the one he was performing, or begin playing a number without informing the band. Ringo soon tired of the eccentricities and returned to Liverpool and the Hurricanes." Quoted from The Ringo Starr Encyclopedia by Bill Harry (Virgin Books, 2004).
