    Description

Beach Boys Marysville Memorial Auditorium Concert Poster Dated The Day President John F. Kennedy Died (Frederic Vail Productions, 1963). Extremely Rare. Window card printed in black and white on card stock for a "Dance & Show" in California on Friday, November 22. The poster shows a fantastic publicity shot of the group holding a surf board, and lists recent hits "409", "Little Duce Coupe", "Shut Down", "Surfer Girl", "In My Room", "Surfin USA", "Surfin Safari" and "Be True To Your School". Measures 14" x 20.5". In Very Good condition with a 0.5" area of loss to upper edge, creasing and surface loss to corners and edges, tape marks, black ink smudges and other discoloration to reverse, general toning.

Provenance: Formerly from the Estate of Dennis Wilson.

This is the only known copy of this poster and the first time it has appeared at auction.

When news of President John F. Kennedy's assassination broke, on the morning of November 22, Fred Vail, the concert's 18 year old promoter, immediately had doubts that the show should go ahead that evening. After consulting with Murry Wilson, the father of Brian, Dennis and Carl, and also talking to local Marysville officials, the decision was made that it would take place. In fact, as many of the local schools had closed early, tickets continued to sell through the day, and the concert was a great success, despite the somber circumstances.
