    Description

B.B. King, Little Willie John 1960 Jumbo Day-Glo Globe Concert Poster. An original cardboard window card advertising nine R&B attractions appearing in a "Dance and Show" at the Memorial Auditorium in Chattanooga, TN on Monday evening, June 13, 1960.

B.B. King, with a great young picture on this poster, had a terrific year in 1960. He charted three Top 10 R&B hits this year, including "Sweet Sixteen Pt. 1." After a lot of singles success his first decade, B.B. would shortly turn into an album artist and touring machine for the rest of his career. This scarce jumbo Globe poster, the first one Heritage has ever seen or offered, measures 21 3/4" x 31" and grades to Very Good condition. COA from Heritage Auctions.

More Information: Roy Hamilton was a favorite of Elvis Presley's, and will forever be known for his pair of #1 smashes from the 50's, "You'll Never Walk Alone" and "Unchained Melody." Little Willie John is a Rock and Roll Hall-of-Famer who was coming off 11 straight Top 10 R&B hits, including his classic "Fever." Shirley and Lee were still letting the good times roll despite having no hits the previous three years. The Flamingos' "I Only Have Eyes for You" had been a smash for them the previous summer. Buster Brown gets a big picture at the bottom on the strength of his #1 R&B hit "Fannie Mae" which started off the new decade.

Condition details: Poster is somewhat dirty and grimy in places on its surface, in addition to toning. Notice the vertical brown ‘band' that goes from the top venue box down through Shirley and Lee and into Buster Brown's photo. Some restoration done on the poster's edge to the immediate right of the Flamingos' blue box, work which is visible on the verso but barely on the front. A couple of tears in the upper right corner, most noticeably through the "3," have been mended on the back with standard cello tape by an amateur. All four corners are either rounded (mostly) or bumped. Some surface scuffing above "Sam." Globe's trademark Day-Glo inks have survived it all and remain visually compelling.
