Steve Stills Super Session RIAA Gold Record Award (1968). It would have been more aptly titled Super Sessions, because each side of the disc - both outstanding - featured a different superstar guitarist playing with Al Kooper! Kooper was working as an A&R executive with Columbia when he called his friend Mike Bloomfield (Paul Butterfield Blues Band, Electric Flag, KGB) into the studio for two days of jamming with other members of Electric Flag and a session drummer. The bluesy instrumental tracks recorded that first day make up side one. When Bloomfield didn't show up on the second day, Kooper called Stephen Stills (Buffalo Springfield, Crosby, Stills and Nash, Manassas) as to not waste the studio time. The songs recorded that day make up side two. According to the plaque beneath the gold disc, this award was "Presented to Stephen Stills to Commemorate the Sale of More Than One Million Dollars Worth of the Columbia Records Long-Playing Record Album Super Session". Awards presented to the recording artists themselves are seldom offered and are very desirable. Framed to an overall 17.5" x 21.5", the mat is generally water stained and the frame is nicked and scratched. Requires Third Party Shipping.
