Johnnie Taylor 1981 Sam Cooke Award. A 17.5" tall trophy with a musical note at top and an engraved plate on the base: "Johnnie Taylor/ Sam Cooke Award/ 1980-1981". Taylor was presented this at the first annual National Blues Awards concert and awards show in Chicago in 1981. The last song on Taylor's last album Gotta Get the Groove Back in 1999 was "Soul Heaven" in which he dreamed of being at a concert featuring deceased soul music legends including Sam Cooke. In one verse, he sang, "I didn't want to wake up, I was havin' such a good time". Some light wear, otherwise fine. From the Johnnie Taylor Estate.
