According to the plaque beneath the gold disc, this award was "Presented to Don McLean to Commemorate the Sale of More Than One Million Copies of the United Artists Pop Single Record 'American Pie'". Awards presented to the recording artists themselves are seldom offered and are very desirable. Framed to an overall 13.25" x 17.25".
