Emanuel Maurice "Buddy" Adler was born in New York City, June 22, 1906. He began his career in Hollywood in 1936 as a writer of short subjects at MGM Studios. During a five-year period he accumulated writing credits on some 50 short subjects including Quicker'n A Wink (1940), which won an Academy Award. That same year he married actress Anita Louise.

After serving in the Signal Corps in World War II, Adler returned to MGM as a producer. A year later, he moved to Columbia where he personally produced ten films including A Woman of Distinction, Salome, and From Here to Eternity.

In 1954, he transferred to 20th Century-Fox. In 1956, he replaced Darryl F. Zanuck as Head of Production, a position he held until his death July 12, 1960. He not only supervised all the film making, but personally produced 14 films including Soldier of Fortune, Love Is a Many-Splendored Thing, Bus Stop, Anastasia, South Pacific, and The Inn of the Sixth Happiness.

Over his career, Adler received many honors including the Academy Award for Best Picture for From Here to Eternity, Golden Globes for Love Is a Many-Splendored Thing and The Inn of the Sixth Happiness, the Cecil B. DeMille Award, and the Irving G. Thalberg Memorial Award.

The movie quite literally changed my life. I have included a pic of me in Sly's Rocky 3 Cashmere overcoat, would much appreciate if it is possible for you to forward this email to Sly to let him know the overcoat is in good hands, and will be well taken care of, (as will be the Rambo knife forging tools, the other lot I won!) Wish you very happy holidays and a great 2016!
