DescriptionBobby Womack "Lookin' for a Love" RIAA White Mat Gold Record Award (United Artists UA-XW375-W, 1974). Originally recorded in 1962 by Womack and his brothers as the group the Valentinos, this 1974 version of the song again features his siblings on backup vocals, and became Womack's biggest hit, peaking at number 10 on the Billboard Hot 100. This award was presented to famed Jazz bassist and record producer Malcolm Cecil in honor of sales exceeding "One Million Copies of the United Artists Records Single Record 'Lookin' for a Love'". Framed in wood with a rare white mat to an overall 13" x 17". In Fine condition, with some scratching to the wood frame.
A Grammy-winning record producer and engineer, as well as a founding member of the United Kingdom's foremost jazz quintet, the Jazz Couriers, Malcolm Cecil has worked with the Isley Brothers, Stevie Wonder, Billy Preston and many others. Here, for the first time offered at auction anywhere, Heritage brings you a selection of Gold Record awards from Cecil's personal collection. Each is presented to him, representing but a few of his landmark achievements in the realms of Funk, Soul, and Rhythm & Blues.
