Bill Wyman Owned NME 1964-65 Trophy Awarded to the Rolling Stones for "Top Best New Group" (1965). Vintage original trophy awarded to the Rolling Stones bassist Bill Wyman, for "Top Best New Group" and "Top British R&B Group". The Stones were also runners-up in the categories of "World Vocal Group" and "British Vocal Group" - losing out on both gongs to none other than the Beatles. Measuring 13.25" x 3" x 3" overall, constructed from a metal trophy cup with large winged angel top, mounted on wood base with trophy plaque reading "New Musical Express / 1964-65 Poll / Presented to / THE ROLLING STONES / voted / Top Best New Group / Top British R & B Group / Runner-Up / World Vocal Group / Runner-Up / British Vocal Group. The back and underside inscribed in silver ink "04118", possibly an inventory number. The corresponding All-Star concert at Wembley on April 11, 1965, marked only the second time that the Stones and the Beatles had appeared on the same bill together.
