Beatles - Billy Preston's Grammy Nomination Certificate For The Concert For Bangladesh and photo of George Harrison (US, 1973). The American musician Billy Preston holds the distinction of being the only artist named on a Beatles release: the 1969 single "Get Back" being credited to "The Beatles with Billy Preston." His relationship with the group began years earlier, however, at a 1962 Little Richard concert which Brian Epstein staged in Liverpool, with the Beatles as an opening act. A few weeks later, both the Beatles and Little Richard were on a two-week bill at the Star-Club in Hamburg, and it was here that a deep friendship developed between Preston and the Beatles. Preston was only 16 at the time, and said later, "Right from the start, I fell in love with the Beatles. I was probably their first American fan and friend." (Memories of John Lennon, Yoko Ono, ed., HarperCollins New York, 2005, p. 219). The Beatles would dedicate numbers to him at the Star-Club, and invited him to join them on stage (Preston declined, fearing that Little Richard would disapprove).
Preston's relationship with the Beatles would continue after their breakup, and he would later play on releases by Ringo and John. His strongest connection, however, was with George, who produced Preston's album (and the title hit) That's The Way God Planned It in 1970. Preston then contributed to All Things Must Pass, and subsequently was a notable performer the Concert for Bangladesh, as well as taking part in George's 1974 American tour.

Dated January 1973, the certificate measures approximately 8" x 5.25", and has been professionally mounted onto a plaque measuring approximately 10.5" x 7.75". The nomination is listed in the category of Album of The Year, with Preston's co-nominees listed as "George Harrison and Friends". In overall Very Good condition, some smudges and scratches to the surface. Also includes a vintage 8" x 10" press photo of George Harrison performing at the Concert for Bangladesh. From the Uwe Blaschke Beatles Collection.
