Nick Lucas Signed 1929 Gibson Prototype Guitar. Known as "The Crooning Troubadour" during his heyday from the mid-'20s to early '30s, Nick Lucas' career as a singer was eclipsed only by his talent as a Jazz guitarist. In the late '20s, the Gibson Guitar Company and Lucas collaborated and created the Nick Lucas Special, a series of deep-bodied acoustics designed to project sound during live performances. This 1929 Gibson prototype, serial number 87885, is one such guitar, a one-of-kind instrument owned and used on stage by Lucas.
The Nick Lucas Special went through numerous changes in shape, size, woods, and bridge design between 1928-1934. This guitar is unique in that the design features a top, back, and sides made from Brazilian rosewood that complements the 19-fret fingerboard with mother of pearl inlays and the early Gibson logo inlaid in the head. This guitar served as the blueprint for what became a popular Gibson model. As an added bonus, it is inscribed on the back "To My Friend, Nick Morro, From Your Friend" and signed by Lucas in white ink. Well-cared for over the past 80 years, it is in Very Fine to Excellent condition, and accompanied by documentation and a letter of authenticity. Accompanied by a COA from PSA/DNA.
