Louis Armstrong Signed Agreement. This two-page recording agreement between the iconic Jazz trumpeter and Brunswick Record Corporation on company letterhead, dated October 1934, is signed by Armstrong in black ink. This very rare contract, which produced his original recordings of "St. Louis Blues", "Song of the Vipers", "On the Sunny Side of the Street", and others, dates from the early Depression, a rough time for Jazz during which many clubs went out of business (including the venerable Cotton Club in '36) and such greats as Fletcher Henderson, Sidney Bechet, and Kid Ory struggled or quit entirely. The document is in Fine to Very Fine condition with some mild wear, minor tears, heavy fold creases, some soiling and toning, and torn binder holes to the top.
