    Description

    Louis Armstrong And His All Star Band Signed Photographs (circa late 1940s). comprising four black and white photographs. One showing Louis Armstrong performing on stage, signed and inscribed in black ink "Best wishes To My Boy Nat From Satch Louis Armstrong". The second of Barney Bigard (Clarinet), Arvell Shaw (Bass) and Big Sid Catlett (Drums) standing beside a bus, signed in white ink by Bigard and Shaw. The third signed in blue ink by Jack Teagarden (Trombone). The fourth signed and dedicated in blue ink "To Nat my Pal" by Velma Middleton (Vocalist). All four 8" x 10". In Very Good to Fine condition, each with remnants of yellow tape to the front or back of the left edge and annotations to the back, some warping. COA from Heritage Auctions.

    More Information: Nat Singerman was a professional photographer and co-owner of Character Arts Photo Studio in Cleveland, Ohio during the 1940s and 1950s. During this period he met and befriended many jazz legends who performed at clubs in and around Cleveland and Chicago He took many photographs of performances as well as numerous candid shots taken backstage. He also hosted jam sessions and dinners at his studio where other images from the archive were shot. At a later date, the musicians signed these photos for him that he had printed as 8" x 10"s, often in white ink. In some of the photos a bottle of white ink that he provided can be seen clearly.
