Description

    Jazz - Group Of Twenty-three Signed Black And White Photographs Of Jazz Trumpeters (circa late 1940s-early 1950s). all vintage prints, four with photography studio stamp to lower right corner "Character Artists, Cleveland, Ohio". The majority are personalized to "Nat" and are either signed in blue or black fountain pen, or ballpoint pen. Subjects include Roy Eldridge (x5), Muggsy Spanier (signed in white fountain pen), Jimmy McPartland (x2), Charlie Teagarden, Bobby Hackett (x2), Wild Bill Davison, Luis Prima, Lee Collins, Doc Evans (x2), Jonah Jones, Henry Levine (x2) and Hilton Jefferson. All measure 8" x 10" or 10" x 8". In Very Good to Excellent condition, all with remnants of yellow tape to the left edge from when they were previously mounted in an album.     More Information: Nat Singerman was a professional photographer and co-owner of Character Arts Photo Studio in Cleveland, Ohio during the 1940s and 1950s. During this period he met and befriended many jazz legends who performed at clubs in and around Cleveland. He took many photographs of performances as well as numerous candid shots taken backstage. He also hosted jam sessions and dinners at his studio where other images from the archive were shot. At a later date, the musicians signed these photos for him that he had printed as 8" x 10"s, often in white ink. In some of the photos a bottle of white ink that he provided can be seen clearly.
