Description

Grateful Dead Signed Guitar. A 1983-84 black on black Fender Squier Stratocaster from the early "Made in Japan" era, Serial Number SQ56430, boldly signed on the body by all six members of the Grateful Dead, including Jerry Garcia (d. 1995), Bobby Weir, Mickey Hart, Billy Kreutzmann, Phil Lesh, and Vince Welnick. Each autograph has been beautifully signed in white marker, making these signatures really stand out on the black body. The guitar has seen some playing and has normal scratches on the pickguard and body; a small chip is out of the top, away from and above the Mickey Hart signature. There is some oxidization on the bridge and output jack, and a few minor scratches and dings on the backplate and rear of the body. In Fine condition. Included with this rare historical piece is a brief, typed, personally-signed letter from Bobby Weir that reads: "Hi Folks. My signature on this black Fender is real...". Arrangements have been made for a portion of the proceeds from the sale of this beautiful and rare guitar to be donated to one of the Grateful Dead's sponsored charities. From the Jeff Abrams Rock 'n' Roll Archive. COA From Heritage Auctions

More Information: Jeff Abrams has been working on professional projects that involve or were directly associated with the Grateful Dead in one form or another since he was a teenager. From designing store windows for Warner Brothers in the Minneapolis area celebrating the release of the double live The Grateful Dead (commonly referenced as the "Skull and Roses" album) in 1971, to seven years as a very large customer of Muse, a database company in which Bob Weir was involved. In addition, Jeff spent a year working with Grateful Dead Merchandising, a division of Grateful Dead Records. Jeff has always had a tremendous affection for the band, their extraordinary music, and the 45-50 live shows he has seen. It was this appreciation for the band and his association as a fan, colleague, and collaborator, that he sought out this rare gem for his collection.
