Grateful Dead - Jerry Garcia Twice-Signed Check and BG-41 Postcard (Bill Graham, 1966). A Grateful Dead payroll check from the band's first official house at 710 Ashbury, dated December 12, 1966 and made out to Jerry Garcia for fifty dollars, the Monday after the Dead played a three-show run at the Fillmore. Signed by Jerry Garcia and Grateful Dead manager Danny Rifkin on the front, and endorsed by Garcia on the verso. Both signatures in blue ballpoint ink. Check shows the usual cancellation marks. Also included with this lot is a type A postcard of the BG-41 concert poster, for a show at the Fillmore on December 9-11, 1966, featuring the Grateful Dead, Big Mama Mae Thornton, and Tim Rose. Interestingly, the house across the street from 710 Ashbury was inhabited by none other than legendary psychedelic poster artists Stanley Mouse and Alton Kelley, and later became a Hell's Angel's clubhouse. This is three months before the release of the very first Dead album in March of 1967. Another classic album marking the 50th anniversary of the Summer of Love. Pieces measure 7.75" x 3" (check), and 4.25" x 7.75". Check is Excellent, postcard in Near Mint Minus condition. COA from Heritage Auctions.
