Fender Balboa Acoustic Electric Guitar, circa 1980s, Signed by 166 Musicians and Celebrities. Proceeds will Aid in the Fight against Cancer via the Canadian Cancer Society. Offered here is a seldom seen model from Fender's California Series. It features an acoustic body with a single Venetian-style cutaway, a Stratocaster-style neck, and a "six on a side" headstock (serial #5727001). This instrument was originally owned by a Canadian music enthusiast named Charlie "Pride" Fraser, obviously a fan of the Country legend Charlie Pride (who did later sign it). Mr. Fraser gave his prized guitar to a close friend, Judy McKenzie, just before he died of cancer on Valentine's Day, 2006. His hope was that she would learn to play it. The Fender Balboa sat unused for a period of time. About that same time, a friend of Judy's, Gary Hunter, lost his daughter-in-law Tamara Gowan to cancer; Tamara left behind two young sons. Judy and Gary decided that one way to fight back against this horrible disease was to partner up to raise money by getting this beautiful guitar signed by as many entertainers as possible and then auctioning it off to benefit The Canadian Cancer Society, "a national, community-based organization of volunteers whose mission is the eradication of cancer and the enhancement of the quality of life of people living with cancer."Judy and Gary [a truck driver by trade] decided in 2008 to start traveling across North America gathering signatures on this guitar for the project they titled "Signing the Strings." Thousands upon thousands of miles, 166 autographs, and five years later, they have donated the guitar to the above-mentioned charity to be sold by Heritage in this auction. Looking at the list of signatures, we're amazed at the diversity of style and range of ages. From Country to Pop to Metal to Blues to Doo Wop to Rock to Dr. Phil (?!), all the bases are covered here. Following is a complete list of the signatories on this amazing instrument (in order of their signing):

If you are a music fan, it's hard to imagine that you won't find numerous signatures on this guitar that you would love to add to your collection. Actually, it's a ready-made autograph collection in and of itself. The uniqueness should appeal to any collector and the handsome four-sided custom cabinet makes it display-ready for any location -- home, office, or gallery.
Speaking of the included custom cabinet, there's a great story behind that. Judy MacKenzie petitioned Durham Furniture, the chief employer in Charlie Fraser's hometown of Durham, Ontario, to donate a curio cabinet to house this treasured instrument. The award-winning firm responded with a spectacular custom-built cherry display cabinet. The company has also helped publicize and promote the cause. "Projects like this don't come along every day, and Judy's story moved us," said Dave Geikie, Chief Operating Officer for Durham Furniture. "We make great furniture, but we've never been involved in helping promote a charity enterprise before. So we've convened a team to support Judy and Gary in achieving their dream." By the way, Durham has been building handcrafted solid wood furniture since 1899. We thank them for their participation and the gorgeous display cabinet.
Included with the guitar, hardshell case, and cabinet is a scrapbook containing a mini-history of the project with dozens of color photos of the stars as they signed it. We recommend that you search for "Signing the Strings" on Facebook.com. There you will find even more information, updates, and photos.
We are proud to be able to offer this special item, knowing that our clients are a caring and conscientious group who will respond generously to this noble cause by bidding on the guitar. Bid on it in thanks to Judy McKenzie and Gary Hunter for their tireless efforts. Bid on it in memory of Charlie Fraser and Tamara Gowan who lost their battles with cancer but inspired others to action. Bid on it in hopes that medical science will find new and effective treatments and cures for this disease before we or our family members need them. Who knows how many hundreds or even thousands of people will benefit from the proceeds of this sale?

The movie quite literally changed my life. I have included a pic of me in Sly's Rocky 3 Cashmere overcoat, would much appreciate if it is possible for you to forward this email to Sly to let him know the overcoat is in good hands, and will be well taken care of, (as will be the Rambo knife forging tools, the other lot I won!) Wish you very happy holidays and a great 2016!View More Testimonials
