Elvis Presley Related - Big Bopper Photo and Autograph Display with Telegram From Colonel Parker (1959). The Big Bopper was a few years older than Elvis, but was peaking in popularity at the same time in the late 1950s. The multi-talented Bopper (J. P. Richardson, Jr.) was not only cutting hit records himself ("Chantilly Lace"), he was writing songs for and providing backup vocals for his Mercury label-mates George Jones ("White Lightning") and Johnny Preston ("Running Bear"). He died tragically in the same plane crash that took Buddy Holly and Richie Valens on February 3, 1959. Included here is a photo and cut autograph display of the Big Bopper, framed to an overall 13.75" x 20.75" in Excellent condition. The Bopper's son (J. P. Richardson III) has signed on the plexiglass "Little Bopper" and "J. P. Richardson '91". Also included is a telegram dated February 5, 1959, from "PFC Elvis Presley And Colonel Parker" to Richardson's family, expressing sympathy, prayers, and thoughts in their "hour of sorrow." The telegram originated from Madison, Tennessee, home of Colonel Parker, and has been matted and framed to an overall 11" x 9". The telegram and matte show some age toning; the frame is in Excellent condition. COA from Heritage Auctions.
