Elvis Presley Gifted Copy Of "Read With Me" By Thomas B. Costain With Inscription From Dr Nick (early 1970s). The full title reads "Read With Me A Personal anthology of memorable reading, selected and introduced by Thomas B. Costain". Published by Doubleday & Company, New York, 1965, with inscription to inside cover in blue ink "To Elvis / Hope this will be / a substitute for / Carbitol. / Get well in a hurry! / Dr Nick & Edna". In Fine condition with some small tears and wear to dust jacket, toning to pages. COAs From Heritage Auctions and Linda Thompson.

"Carbitol" is a barbiturate, prescribed as a sedative. Brian Epstein, The Beatles' manager, died from an overdose of Carbitol in 1967, aged 32.

Excerpt taken from Linda Thomson's COA: "Dr. George Nichopoulos was Elvis's doctor for many years, as well as a trusted friend. Dr Nick, as he was affectionately known to Elvis and all of us around him, had been openly criticized for over prescribing for Elvis and others. He was even indicted and went on trial for over prescribing for Elvis. He eventually lost his medical license permanently as he was found to have over prescribed for Elvis, Jerry Lee Lewis and others. That makes this inscription particularly meaningful, since he refers to a prescription of Carbitol in his personally signed inscription to Elvis
