Description

Elvis Presley 1956 Autograph Display. In 1956, the Colonel booked Elvis, Scotty Moore, Bill Black, and D. J. Fontana for a series of shows from April 23 to May 6 at the New Frontier Hotel in Las Vegas. They were Elvis' first Vegas shows, and while he was popular with the teens by that point, he was met with a rather chilly reception by the older crowd at the New Frontier. There was polite applause, but not much enthusiasm. Bill Willard of the Las Vegas Sun panned the show he saw, saying: "For the teen-agers, the long, tall Memphis lad is a whiz; for the average Vegas spender or showgoer, a bore. His musical sound with a combo of three is uncouth, matching to great extent the lyric content of his nonsensical songs." (Ironically, Elvis would not only become one of the most successful singers ever, but would also play a legendary series of shows over the better part of three years in Las Vegas.) This 5" x 7" b&w photo was signed by Elvis at one of those 1956 performances, and has been mounted and framed along with a flyer from the venue and small plaque, to an overall size of 16.25" x 12.25". In Very Fine to Excellent condition. Requires third party shipping.
