Brian Jones Owned and Inscribed Children's Book Titled "A Child's Garden of Verses" (ca. 1948)....
Description
ONE OF THE EARLIEST PIECES OF BRIAN JONES MEMORABILIA, YEARS BEFORE THE ROLLING STONES
Brian Jones Owned and Inscribed Children's Book Titled "A
Child's Garden of Verses" (ca. 1948). Vintage children's book
by Rainbow Junior of Robert Louis Stevenson poetry published
in 1946, the title page dated in pencil November 13, 1948, and the
inside front cover inscribed by Brian Jones in pencil, by this date
just six years of age. Measuring 6.5" x 8", the book contains
printed illustrations, a number of which are drawn on with color
pencils and crayon. A touching reminder of the innocence of youth,
this deeply personal object from a little over a decade prior to
Brian Jones' launch into stardom with the Rolling Stones.
Provenance: Sotheby's Olympia, September 20, 2001, Lot 17
(part). According to the accompanying typed note, the previous
owner's family were friends of the Jones family. The previous owner
was younger than Brian, and this book was one of several
hand-me-down items to them. Exhibits visible wear including the
front cover separated from the the spine, the covers and pages with
light handling wear, light stains or toning from age. Due to
Brian Jones' young age, Heritage Auctions cannot guarantee the
authenticity of signature included, and it is being sold as-is.
