December 26, 1967, marked BBC 1's world premier for the film Magical Mystery Tour. On December 27th, the newspapers were pretty unanimous, panning it as "rubbish" and "a waste of time." Apparently John decided to take a quick holiday to Morocco to get away for a bit. That would explain him buying travellers' cheques on this date. He and friend Victor Spinetti left London on the 29th.
