Arthur Kelly was George Harrison's best buddy back in Liverpool and holds a very important place in George's musical career. Harrison's mother bought George his first guitar when he was thirteen (for three pounds, ten shillings) which he taught himself to play. He formed, with his brother Pete, friend Arthur Kelly, and two others, his first band- a short-lived skiffle group called "The Rebels." The name was suggested by Arthur who had just seen the film Rebel Without a Cause. Their friendship was maintained throughout their adult lives. Arthur went on to become an actor who portrayed Monkey Gibbons in Coronation Street and Geoff Wright in Brookside as well as numerous other stage, screen, and film roles.

The brother-in-law Red unknowingly had a major influence on George Harrison's musical tastes. Arthur Kelly recalls: "My sister married an American merchant seaman called Red. He used to make periodic trips from New York to Liverpool and one particular day he came in with some records. There's this EP - I think it was pink and pale-green - of this guy with his mouth open playing his guitar. I looked at the name and I had to laugh: he isn't called Elvis! But I put it on, and that was it: 'Wow!' Immediately I had to tell George about this. 'Have you heard this guy Elvis Presley? He's phenomenal!' Consequently, skiffle went out the door and it was rock 'n' roll. Also among the records was 'That'll Be the Day' by Buddy Holly and the Crickets. It hadn't even aired in England by this time. I put it on, and again this was something completely new. So I took it up to George and said, 'Listen to this, George,' and he said, 'Oh, that's really good. Can I borrow it?' So I loaned him this little 45. A week later, I go up to see him and he's learned the intro, all the chords, the guitar break - the lot. This is what amazed me about George: he had this ability to memorise things." (George Harrison: Living in the Material World by Olivia Harrison, page 34).

The movie quite literally changed my life. I have included a pic of me in Sly's Rocky 3 Cashmere overcoat, would much appreciate if it is possible for you to forward this email to Sly to let him know the overcoat is in good hands, and will be well taken care of, (as will be the Rambo knife forging tools, the other lot I won!) Wish you very happy holidays and a great 2016!
