    Description

Beatles - Fantastic 1963 Royal Command Performance Program Signed by All Four Beatles (UK, 1963). Rarely do signed examples show up on the market, and rarer still in this condition. The Beatles November 4, 1963 performance in front of Queen Elizabeth and the Queen Mother found the band on the verge of world domination. In little more than three months the band would invade the U.S. and the rest, as they say is history. The program measures 8.25" x 11.5" with the titles on the cover embossed in black with the queen's royal warrant stamped in gilt. The program is staple-bound with a royal blue cord and tassel ornament. There were 19 acts on the bill that night at the Prince of Wales Theatre in London including Tommy Steele, Marlene Dietrich with Burt Bacarach at the piano, Donald Swann, Wilfrid Brambell and Michael Flanders, but undoubtedly The Beatles were the main attraction. Seventh on the bill, they performed "From Me to You", "She Loves You", "Till There Was You" and "Twist and Shout". It was before their last song that a cheeky John Lennon uttered his now famous line: "For our last number, I'd like to ask your help. Will the people in the cheaper seats clap your hands? And the rest of you, if you'll just rattle your jewelry...". The boys have signed beautifully in blue ink, in an unrushed hand above and to the left of their picture in the program. Three other performers also signed this copy: The Clark Brothers (second act on the bill), Hattie Jacques (15th act) and Teddy Greene of the "Pickwick" Company (the last act). Other than some slight age toning to the wide covers, the program is in Very Fine to Excellent condition. Accompanying the program are two black-and-white negatives of the band from their performance. Prints show the band performing and being received by the Queen Mother. A superb example of music history. COA From Heritage Auctions.
