Description

Beatles Early Signatures on Album Page with Original Drummer Pete Best (circa 1962). A rare 5.75" x 3.5" album page, bearing the autographs in ink of the pre-Ringo Beatles: "To Doreen love from/ George Harrison/ xxxxx", "To Doreen/ love from/ John Lennon/ xxx", "To Doreen/ love from/ Paul McCartney/ xxx", and "Love to Doreen/ from/ Pete Best/ xxx". The page is matted with a 7" x 5" early B&W promo photo to an overall 11" x 14". This is an important piece of Beatles history and one that is missing from many collections. Album page shows only light wear, Fine.

In 1959, Pete Best's mother Mona opened a rock music venue in the basement of their Liverpool home called The Casbah Coffee Club. All the local acts performed there, including Best's band The Black Jacks and the Quarrymen (John, Paul, George, and friends). Pete was invited to join the Beatles as drummer on August 10, 1960, just before the group's first trip to Hamburg for a series of club dates. He stayed with the group through the trips to Hamburg, and even recorded with the group as the Beat Brothers backing up the popular singer Tony Sheridan. He was still with the group when they had their first EMI recording session in June 1962. At that time, producer George Martin wanted to use a session drummer in the studio instead of Pete (as was common at the time). One thing led to another and Brian Epstein was asked by the other Beatles to fire Pete on August 16, 1962. He was, of course, replaced by Ringo Starr.
