Description
Washington, George & Thomas Jefferson. 3-Language ship's papers signed ("Go: Washington") as President and ("Th: Jefferson") as Secretary of State, 1-page (12.75 x 15.75 in.; 324 x 400 mm), Chester [Pennsylvania], 21 October 1793, being a partially-printed document in French, English and Dutch for the Brigantine called "Hannah". Countersigned by Thomas Jefferson, Secretary of State. Expertly backed and exhibits heavy toning with some paper loss (not affecting signatures of Washington or Jefferson); both wafer seals are present. George Washington & Thomas Jefferson sign a three-language ship's paper for the Brigantine called "Hannah". The document reads in part: George Washington, President of the United States of America...Be It Known, That leave and permission are hereby given to Paul Post master or commander of the Brigantine called Hannah of the burthen of Ninety six tons, or thereabouts, lying at present in the port of Philadelphia bound for Hispaniola and laden with Provisions, Wine Dry Goods etc. to depart and proceed with his said Brigantine on his said voyage, such Vessel having been visited, and the said Paul Post having made oath before the proper officer, that the said Brigantine belongs to one or more of the citizens of the United States of America, and to him or them only...Heritage Auctions provides as much information as possible but strongly encourages in-person inspection.
