Description
Trader Mickey one-sheet poster Trader Mickey one-sheet poster. (United Artists, 1932) One-sheet poster for Trader Mickey, depicting Mickey and Pluto on a small raft being attacked by angry hippos. While taking a shipload of musical instruments along the African coast, Mick and Pluto are captured by cannibals. The savages plan to eat them until Mickey trades the instruments for their freedom, then engages in a wild jam session. The most beautiful examples of poster art ever produced for the studio are the gorgeous stone lithography example one-sheets produced during the short reign of United Artists as Disney's distribution company. When Walt Disney left Columbia in 1932, he struck a deal with UA and his creativity blossomed. The UA posters are considered the "holy grail" for animation collectors, with many of the short films represented by only one or two known examples. Only two examples of this gorgeous poster have ever been offered at public auction. Minor restoration to the black field at the upper left, but does not come anywhere near the image which is almost pristine and untouched. Very Fine+, on linen.
