Description

The Last Supper disply Jesus and His 12 Disciples 152. The Last Supper - Jesus and His 12 Disciples. This incredibly realistic display was originally created for the 1939 World's Fair in New York and is constructed of paper mache over chicken wire sculptures. The figures are posed after Leonardo da Vinci's famous painting "The Last Supper" in response to hearing Jesus' statement, "One of you shall betray me". They bear an incredible level of empathy and sophistication in the facial features and gestures. All the figures are dressed in colorful robes and measure approximately 4 ft. 4 in. tall. One of the figures lacks a thumb and ring finger on the right hand, and lacks a thumb on the left hand; otherwise, remain in very good condition. The figures are located at the Hollywood Wax Museum and represent one of the most moving and popular of the displays. The table and place settings are not included with this lot. $8,000 - $10,000
