    Description

    The African Queen boat tiller inscribed to Katherine Hepburn with accompanying signed letters from Hepburn. (MGM, 1951) Vintage original boat tiller constructed of lathed wooden handle with iron square socket prong at the top for fitting to and steering a boat tiller. With engraved steel band at the bottom end of the handle reading, "To Katie with enduring affection from the 'African Queen' May-September 1951". Accompanied by 4-letters of provenance from Katherine Hepburn to the buyer who won the tiller at auction including 3-typed and signed notes on 6 x 8 in. Hepburn personal stationary and 1-Hepburn notecard confirming the history of the tiller and how it originally came into her possession from director John Huston at the end of production on The African Queen. In vintage very good condition.
