(MGM, 1939) Set of (5) Gone With the Wind movie tickets for the Atlanta, Georgia premiere, at the Loew's Grand Theatre on the evening of 15 December 1939 at 8:15 PM. All tickets are for "Orchestra" seating. The 6.75 x 2.25 in. printed tickets feature black text on ivory cardstock accented by embossed gold gilt "Gone With The Wind" title and edge. On the right third of the ticket is a sepia rendering of Scarlett O'Hara and Rhett Butler in an embrace with a Southern plantation setting in the background. The premiere screening was sponsored by the Atlanta Community Fund and the admission price was "Ten Dollars per ticket Tax Exempt". The premiere was the culmination of three days of festivities hosted by Atlanta's mayor. More than 300,000 people attended the festivities. The Governor of Georgia declared December 15th a state holiday. Former President Jimmy Carter, a teenager at the time of the event, later recalled that the movie's premiere was the biggest event to happen in the South in his lifetime. All tickets exhibit two manufacturer's punched holes at the right edge for spooling of stacks. On the verso, International Ticket Company, Newark, N. J. imprint is present. Exhibiting minor signs of age. Overall, very good to fine.
