Robert Wagner "Prince Valiant" Hero "Singing Sword" and Scabbard from Prince Valiant (TCF, 1954). Vintage ornate hero prop "singing sword," the signature weapon of Prince Valiant (Robert Wagner). Designed directly from Hal Foster's sword design conceived for his long running Prince Valiant comic strip, the singing sword is the
sister sword to King Arthur's legendary Excalibur. The sword consists of hand carved wooden components including
gold painted and jeweled pommel, braid carved hilt and ivory painted and jeweled cross-guard (jewels mounted on
single camera side). The pommel cap unscrews a threaded post mounted on two variations of the polished blade (both included with lot): 1-short 3.5" x 3" vestigial partial blade made to fit within the wooden scabbard, and 1-full 38.25" x 3" highly polished blade intended for use in the sequences showing the sword outside the scabbard. The 33" x 4" x 1" scabbard is hand carved of wood embellished with ornate cast resin ornaments and faux jewels applied to the camera side of the prop. Fully assembled, the prop weapon measures 43" long in scabbard and 39.25" long when attached to the blade. Exhibiting expected age and production wear. COA from Heritage Auctions.
