Vintage original group of (24) items related to the Flea Circus routine performed by Jackie Gleason in character as Reginald Van Gleason III from his original self-titled variety show, including (1) high-dive contraption constructed of a 15" x 15" wooden base painted aqua-blue with a 28" x 2.5" silver-painted wooden ladder and 4" x 4" "diving board" affixed with nails and 4- pieces of rope, (1) 9" gold-colored metal motorcycle toy, (1) bugle contraption comprised of 3- plastic goose horns affixed to a 12" gold-painted plastic rod, (2) static teeter-totters constructed of 14" x 4" wooden planks affixed with glue to 4" cylinders, (1) 12" x 14" x 12" wooden box made to resemble a cage with wooden retractable cage door to front, (1) 17" x 12" x 2" wood and metal tray with removable lid featuring 2" circular center grate, (7) wooden pylons of size ranging from 7.5" x 10" x 8" to 9.5" x 10" x 12", (1) 3" miniature red flag, (1) miniature wooden faux lute, and (7) miscellaneous smaller pieces that would have served various functions during the routine. All wooden items are painted in a similar style, mainly white with 1- light and 1- dark blue stripe to top and bottom, and red center diamond shapes to each side with white center circles covered with black glitter. Borders of most items also contain a layer of black and silver glitter. Reginald Van Gleason III was one of Jackie Gleason's favorite characters to portray - debonair, irreverent, and unpredictable. Accompanying these marvelous prop pieces is (1) 37" x 27" x 34" canvas laundry bin on wheels with gold-painted wooden top hinged closure, with spray-painted red to exterior and with stenciled "CBS PROP / 55" to top and side, indicating that the bin was repurposed for the CBS Props Department. All items exhibiting signs of production wear, handling, and age, including soiling, scuffs to paint, desiccation of wood, smudges, oxidation to metals, and other expected signs of production use.
