    Description

The Howdy Doody Show Flub-a-Dub Head. This puppet head of the original Flub-a-Dub is carved from balsa wood, with working mouth and eye movement. A unique South American animal with a duck's head, a cat's whiskers, a giraffe's neck, a cocker spaniel's ears, a seal's flippers, a raccoon's tail, and a dachshund's body, the Flub-a-Dub character came to be when host Buffalo Bob Smith needed to explain his absence from the show while on vacation in the Caribbean in February 1949. Buffalo Bob told the kids in the Peanut Gallery that he was going on a hunting expedition to capture the legendary Flub-a-Dub; on the way back from the expedition, the critter jumped ship in Bermuda to smell the flowers but was recaptured and returned to Doodyville, where it was given to Clarabell the Clown as a pet. The head is accompanied by a letter of provenance from Pady Blackwood, a puppeteer for the 1970s. In Fine condition with the expected signs age and use.
