Description
The Godfather Part II (Paramount, 1974), Francis Coppola/Gordon Willis 1st Unit "A" Camera Clapperboard from Sicily Location Shoot. Vintage original wooden clapperboard with hinged clapstick and scene board face. Measuring 11" x 9.75" x .75" with handwritten on production white gaffer's tape, "A CAM.", "The Godfather II", Dir: F. Coppola", Cam: G. Willis", "Day 2-7-74", "ITALY/ L" and "Take 3". Verso retains multiple "stacks" of one or more strips each of white gaffer's tape marked with numbers "2" through "0" (missing "1", and "3" is on front) and letters "A" through "Y" (missing "C" and "Z", (2) letter "L" are on front, and it is clear from layout that the letter "I" was never included) plus a loose "G" is included separately. Verso also retains faded "CAM B" tape strip for application during "B-Roll" use. Gordon Willis was an eminently acclaimed and respected cinematographer with multiple award nominations and wins, including the NSFC Best Cinematography award for his combined work on this film and The Parallax View (1974). The historical accolades for Francis Coppola and The Godfather (1972) films would fill too many pages for even a sample; needless to say, this particular film is the very rare example where, arguably, a sequel surpasses its original source. A number of early-story scenes were location shot in Sicily and other parts of Italy to illuminate the youth of Vito Corleone (Robert De Niro) - then known as Vito Andolini - before emigrating to New York. In fact, a fish market in Trieste doubled for the Ellis Island immigrant station in the U.S. Exhibiting age, generous production wear, and rubbing to paint and edges, all quite expected for an artifact 50 years old that traveled the Italian city and countryside, documenting some of the most memorable and scenic filmmaking in history. Comes with a COA from Heritage Auctions.Auction Info
