The Da Vinci Code (Sony, 2006), Replica "Mona Lisa" Painting. Original Mona Lisa painting printed on glossy paper in a wooden frame. The ornately carved frame is painted with gold-toned paint that has been intentionally distressed and muted. On its reverse, the painting has three wooden support beams and markings that imitate the true painting including a butterfly brace to prevent cracking. The image is a replica of the famed masterpiece, the "Mona Lisa", painted by Italian Renaissance master Leonardo da Vinci. This painting was used in the film when Robert Langdon (Tom Hanks) and Sophie Neveu (Audrey Tautou) discover the clue "so dark the con of man" written in invisible ink on the painting. The Louvre museum would not allow production to use any lighting on the painting, so the studio made this replica. It is larger than the original painting, measuring approx. 30" x 39". Displays production wear and age with minor scratches on the image. Obtained from Profiles in History which sold this directly for Sony Pictures Entertainment on June 28, 2017, Lot #1754.
