Description
The Blues Brothers (Universal, 1980), John Candy's "Burton Mercer" Screen-Used Chicago Police Piggy Bank. Original Chicago Police "Piggy Bank" prominently seen on the office desk of parole officer Burton Mercer (John Candy) as he is on the phone discussing the whereabouts of the Blues Brothers. Constructed of heavy ceramic with coin slot at back of head, plastic googly eyes, expertly painted tan, pastel blue, and navy blue with silver accents, with the name tag painted "Shiffer", and both chest and hat badges painted "7" (to match the original owners badge number). From the collection of the son of the late Ramona Shiffer, a former Chicago P.D. official (Head of Crossing Guards) who had this "Piggy Bank" on her desk when the film crew visited the department and insisted on using it on Candy's desk. Shamrock on collar was added post-production by Shiffer. Item measures 8" x 7.5" x 16". Exhibits age and wear with paint chipping, soiling, and noticeable adhesive remnants around the neck and part of the left hoof from previous repair. Includes a yellow plastic plug at bottom to withdraw coins.
