Rosemary's Baby (Paramount, 1968), Bud Westmore Designed Woodhouse Baby Head. Vintage original molded wax infant head measuring 5.5" x 5" x 6". "What have you done to it? What have you done to its eyes?!" Rosemary (Mia Farrow) implores as she sees her baby for the first time in the memorable climax of Rosemary's Baby. Viewers will recall that during the unforgettable ending the baby was never revealed, but originally director Roman Polanski had other ideas. Effects artist Bud Westmore (Creature from the Black Lagoon, Tarantula) was tasked with creating the face of the spawn of Satan. His unsettling sculpt resembles a baby doll head with hypnotic eyes that subtly mirror the pupils of his "father" (seen in Rosemary's hallucination). Polanski decided to go in a more ambiguous direction, which arguably made the climax even more disturbing. Though uncredited, Westmore also created Farrow's pregnant belly-piece for the film. This unique piece of horror history offers a rare window into the production of the classic film. Exhibits some nicks, scratches, discoloration and a large crack across the back of the head.
