Description

Roscoe "Fatty" Arbuckle Personal Bowler Hat (ca. 1920s). Vintage brown and golden plaid bowler hat with brown ribbon hatband, brown and blue striped bow, and brown grosgrain trimmed brim. Roscoe "Fatty" Arbuckle was one of the most popular stars of the silent films of the 1910s. Though ultimately acquitted after three trials, his career never recovered after being charged with the murder of actress Virginia Rappe. Arbuckle's ex-wife, Minta Durfee, was by his side throughout the trial, and they remained close until Arbuckle's death in 1933. This hat was purchased at an estate sale featuring the property of Minta Durfee, who had kept many of Fatty Arbuckle's belongings. Accompanied by a letter of authenticity from the person who purchased the hat at the estate sale. The hat appears structurally sound, but exhibits breaches to the material and ribbon around the brim. Much of the leather inner band is no longer present. The hat box exhibits extreme age and wear with the bottom portion separating from the main structure. Comes with a COA from Heritage Auctions.
