Description

"Mr. Flibble's very cross."

Red Dwarf (BBC TV, 1988-1999), Chris Barrie "Mr. Flibble" Screen-Used Hand Puppet from Episode "Quarantine." Original screen-used "Mr. Flibble" penguin hand puppet, constructed from black, white, and orange sewn cloth with a furry exterior, googly eyes, and a red polka-dot bow tie. Measures 11" x 7" x 3". Mr. Flibble made his first and only on-screen appearance in Red Dwarf Season 5, Episode 4, "Quarantine," when the crew investigates a remote outpost and contracts a holo-virus, with Rimmer (Chris Barrie) suffering the worst effects. Later in the episode, he appears in a gingham dress, bonnet, pigtails-and a disturbingly cheerful evil puppet, Mr. Flibble, on his right hand. Despite the brief appearance, Mr. Flibble became an instant fan favorite and pop culture sensation. Offered here is the original screen-used Mr. Flibble puppet which was later provided by Grant Naylor Productions to T-2 Distribution for the production of licensed replicas. Included is a photocopied letter of authenticity dated February 6, 2008, from L. Hilton, Director of T-2 Distribution, confirming that this is the original puppet used to create the official souvenir version. Although featured in only one episode, Mr. Flibble became a cult icon-interviewing celebrities, appearing in the Red Dwarf comic, and lending his "Mr. Flibble's very cross" tagline to a wide range of merchandise, including T-shirts, mugs, and replica puppets modeled after this original. Exhibits production wear and age, including surface flattening to the fur, light staining, and visible original stitching likely due to its rapid creation for the episode. Comes with a COA from Heritage Auctions.
