Description
Pacific Rim (Warner Bros., 2013), Screen Used Hero Illuminating Jaeger Pilot Spinal Interface with High-Tech Case. Original, illuminating rectangular high-tech case crafted of metal, fiberglass, aluminum, and resin. The top of the case slides back to reveal the spinal interface device in a form-fitting bed of silicone that is backlit with teal lights when powered. The spinal Interface resembles a mechanical spine with hinging "vertebrae" crafted of resin, aluminum, wiring, and LED lights embedded on one side and a series of articulating triangular sensor pads on the other. At the beginning of the film, while Raleigh and Yancy Becket (Charlie Hunnam, Diego Klattenhoff) prepare to pilot Jaeger Gipsy Danger, they lock into their Drivesuits and technicians slide open this case and pull out the spinal interface device which relays incoming and outgoing neural signals, fusing their minds and bodies with the Jaeger. Case measures 30.5" x 15" x 6" (closed). Spinal Interface measures 21" x 5" (plus power cord). The illuminating feature on the box is operational and uses a standard 110v power supply (included). Comes with an additional, separate power box labeled "Spine Box Internal Light Power Supply For Teal Lights". The Spinal Interface has a power cord protruding from the bottom but has no power supply, and electronics untested. Case exhibits intentional distress and production wear. One of the hinges on the Spinal Interface is broken and one of the smaller triangular sensor pads is missing. Comes with a COA from Heritage Auctions."To me, real, physical props are vital. Legacy FX applied full-on, hero gag resources, at my request, to bring this manga-esque moment to life in the film. I wanted to show the golden gel filling the helmets (real, not digital) and the real spinal cord illuminated and activate. To put enormous effort into a 'matter-of-fact' gag makes worlds seem real: 'Oh, yeah, they use one of those.'" From the personal collection of Guillermo del Toro.
