Original Painting of Milton Berle by Boris Artzybasheff for Time Magazine Cover 1949. Milton Berle original painting accomplished in gouache on illustration board featuring the actor in a straw boater hat and large bow tie and published on the cover of the May 16, 1949 issue of Time Magazine. The portrait was painted by Russian-born illustrator, Boris Artzybasheff and signed by the artist at the lower right. Archivally matted and housed in an ornate wooden frame with overall dimensions of 23 in. x 27 in., and visible images size of 11 1/2 in. x 12 in. This portrait was published on the cover of TIME the same week as he appeared on the cover of Newsweek, the first comedian ever to receive that honor. The painting hung in The National Portrait Gallery as part of their "On the Air: Pioneers of American Broadcasting" exhibit from October 7, 1988 to January 2, 1989. Accompanied by the original mat, but separate from the frame. Acquired from the Milton Berle Estate.
