Description

Mister Ed (CBS TV, 1961-1966), Mister Ed's Horseshoes and Cast Signed Photograph. Vintage original group of (4) chrome-plated metallic horseshoes worn by the horse Mister Ed on the eponymous sitcom that ran for six seasons on CBS in the early to mid-1960s. The series centered around a "talking horse" (played onscreen by a palomino named Bamboo Harvester and voiced by the actor Allan Lane) and his owner, the genial but clumsy architect, Wilbur Post (Alan Young). The central gag to the series follows the conceit that Ed only communicates with Wilbur, which he does in a polished, well-spoken manner. These horseshoes from the series are mounted to a rust-colored felt backing within a 14.5" x 14.5" hand-made wooden frame with wooden plaque to center featuring Western-style hand-painted text reading, "Mr. Edd's Shoes". Lot is accompanied by a 7.25" x 9" black-and-white cast photograph of Wilbur (Young), his wife Connie Post (Carol Hines), and Mister Ed, and signed in black ink "To Bert / With Kindest Wishes / Alan Young" and "To Bert - My Sincere Thanks and Appreciation / Affectionately / Connie Hines", inside a 10" x 13" black wooden frame. Horseshoes exhibiting signs of wear and age including oxidation, with scuffs and chips to both frames. Provenance: Originally from the collection of set decorator Bert F. Allen; Profiles in History, Auction 96, December 11, 2018, Lot #2099. Comes with a full LOA from Beckett Authentication Services. From The Stewart Berkowitz Television Treasures Collection.
