Dances with Wolves (Orion, 1990), Life-Sized Buffalo Replica. Original life-sized buffalo prop made of foam latex built over metal, board and fiberglass armature with cast foam latex rubber skin, realistic hair, resin teeth, mouth and prosthetic grade glass eyes, measuring 86" x 50" x 28". Prominently-featured during the film's memorable buffalo hunting sequence, this is one of 23 full-scale buffalo models the production used to avoid harming any animals in the film. Over $250,000 was spent building these finely detailed replicas which were repeatedly used during the 8-day-long filming of the sequence. Exhibits production wear.
