Description
Batman (TCF TV, 1966-1968), Cesar Romero "Joker" Prop Grenade Kit. Vintage original (5) piece "grenade kit" consisting of (1) wooden tool box modified with dual-hinged doors to each side and painted exterior in black with yellow, red, and blue designs including hand-painted text reading "Joker's Grenades" on both door panels, with interlocking circle design to one side and interwoven heart, spade, and diamond to the other, featuring interior painted red and lined with a red velveteen fabric and 6- carved divots for holding a group of (4) prop "grenades", constructed of foam latex juggling balls painted green, red, and orange. This lot perfectly embodies the whimsical, tongue-in-cheek nature of Batman's perhaps most well-known and recognizable foe, the Joker, lovingly portrayed in the original Batman series by Cesar Romero. As well, it highlights the ingenuity and creativity of the studio props department for bringing the script to life. This whimsical prop device can be seen in Season 2, Episode 47, "The Joker's Last Laugh", when Joker and Josie Miller (Phyllis Douglas) attempt to track the Batmobile to the Batcave, where they are inevitably outsmarted. Crate exhibits expected production wear and age including paint wear, scuffs, and areas of chipping yet presents well overall. Prop grenades exhibit desiccation and rigidity including 1/3 surface loss to the green ball with hardening to the interior foam and signs of overall production use to each. Crate measures 10" x 7" x 8" with each ball approx. 2" diameter. Comes with a COA from Heritage Auctions.
