Description

Akira Kurosawa's Personal Signature-Engraved Viewfinder (ca. 1970s). Vintage original Isco viewfinder owned and used by film legend Akira Kurosawa made of metal and glass and measuring approx. 2.25" (in diameter) and 4" long. This 1970s vintage viewfinder with zoom and adjustable aspect ratio retains its original data plate, metal neck strap, and Isco-Gottingen markings. It was personally owned and used by the influential Japanese filmmaker, whose signature has been engraved across the body. The director of such classics as Rashomon (1950) and Seven Samurai (1954) was a master of action and composition. A viewfinder was an essential tool for his work, allowing the director to previsualize shot compositions and camera movements before a take. Comes complete with the original black leather bag. Exhibits production wear and some scratching on the data plate. Leather bag exhibits some creasing and areas of wear. Originally obtained from a realtor who was involved in the closure of Kurosawa's office in Los Angeles. Note: Reference image in this listing depicts director Kurosawa wearing a different viewfinder than the one offered in this lot. Comes with a COA from Heritage Auctions.
