Description

A Café Chair from "Casablanca." Warner Bros., 1942. Made of bamboo, wicker backrest painted red and black, wooden seat painted red, decorative twine wrapped around top and bottom areas also painted red, armless, bottom stamped in black ink "Made in Belgium," further annotation on bottom handwritten in black grease pencil reads "BS 7329" and in black ink "A 501-763;" one of the many seen throughout 'Rick's Café Américain' that main stars Humphrey Bogart, Ingrid Bergman, Claude Rains, Paul Henreid, and Conrad Veidt (among other cast members) all either walk by or sit on throughout the beloved classic. (Please note some of the wicker backing is missing as are other minor parts of the chair and the overall condition is somewhat worn as this piece is now over 72 years old and was likely never made to last.)
    35" x 15" x 15"

    PROVENANCE:
The current owner bought this chair at a southern California swap meet in the mid-1980s where at the time he was told it had previously been purchased at a Santa Monica auction years before -- this is the only provenance known about the piece now.
